The competition between BT Vision and Sky gets murkier

With the introduction of BT Vision offering Sky Sports at a much lower price to new customers, BT has visions of increasing its customer base considerably. This special TV package is offered to those customers who opt for broadband and calls packages as well.

Though it is a known fact that more and people are likely to sign up for BT Vision as the football season draws nearer, but as BT loses out on its revenues, there is no logical reason why this move was initiated in the first place.

As per earlier experiences, two companies viz. ITV Digital and Sentanta Sports who tried to take on Sky have faced unimaginable losses and defeat; it seems difficult for BT Vision to win this power game. Though BT Vision is a subsidiary of BT, the telecom giant it is still too early to say whether BT Vision could win this gamble or not.

On the other hand, though BT is promoting Sky Sports, it is asking its customers to pay extra for additional Sky Sports channel through which they can enjoy ESPN channel as well. Sports fans need to bear in mind only Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 are being offered while the extremely popular ones being Sky Sports 3 and 4 or even its Sky Sports News HD is not on the offer. Hence BT’s offer of Sky Sports is just a basic marketing gimmick in order to attract new customers at the onset of the football season.

The only plus point being sports lovers can watch all the entire football matches at a much cheaper price. But after the football season, the viewers are not going to get much entertained through Sky Sports offered by BT Vision.
